Fire Department

The first fire department in Webster County was organized in early 1967 as the Preston Volunteer Fire Department. It was comprised of fifteen volunteers from within the city.
Currently there are five Volunteer Fire Department houses in Webster County  and a total force of thirty-one men and women from within the county.
Including all fire houses there are five fire engines (which individually carry 1,000 gallons and can pump 1,000 gpm), one 2,500 gallon tanker & one 3,000 gallon tanker, one brush truck and one rescue vehicle. The five fire houses are strategically  located in the county to allow best response times to emergencies throughout the county and keep the ISO ratings as low as possible.
In addition to responding to fire calls, the volunteer fire department assists the Sheriff’s  Office and EMS, when requested to do so. Their assistance is normally requested when a major event occurs, either a multiple or serious vehicle accident or when a search and rescue effort requires more manpower than the Sheriff’s Office has available.
