We welcome you to Webster County Georgia and our home on the web. Webster County Is a small rural county in south west Georgia (see map) and was formed on Dec. 16, 1853 from a portion of adjoining, Stewart County Georgia. Here you’ll find a green country setting with a country lifestyle.The census of 2010 shows our county as having a total area of 209.12 square miles with a population of 2,799. Although Webster County is small with a country lifestyle, it is centrally located to three larger cities (the smaller of the three having a population over 16,000) each with State Universities and Technical Colleges, and within thirty minutes to an hour drive from anywhere in Webster County. They are located in Americus, Albany, and Columbus Ga.

The entire county offers some great deer, turkey, quail, and dove hunting and is scattered with numerous farm ponds that hold bass, bream, and catfish as well as other species.

There is also a 4,373 acre Wildlife Management Area, Lanahassee Creek WMA, in the county that is owned and operated by the state of Georgia. And if having a large recreational and fishing lake nearby is on your list, you are in luck. Webster County is located half way between two of the best lakes in the state. Forty minutes to the west is the well known Lake Eufaula (Walter F. George Reservoir), and fifty minutes to the east is Lake Blackshear, a well kept secret in Georgia. (see the map below)

Agriculture and forestry are Webster County’s primary industries and account for a large portion of the employment in the county. Other opportunities include convenience and grocery stores, service stations, school system, Merritt Pecan Co., Interfor Lumber Company, and other farm supply, service, and sales.

The quality of the country air, the warmth of neighbors, and a proud county-wide history found here are sometimes hard to imagine in today’s fast-paced society. If the things that are important to you include a safe community, open space, abundant wildlife, a great small school system, and just plain ole “down-home” folks, then Webster County can offer you a place that you’d be proud to call home.
